There are days when I wake up in my shelter. It is still dark outside, but I immediately notice that something is different. I should actually already be seeing the first light in the sky, but light, no stars - anything. I realise, that thick fog surrounds the house. I can see two meters, but nothing else. I don't know how long it will last, is it just a few hours or maybe a week? No winter report can predict that for me. I practice patience, do my work. I can only find the cattle by hearing. Their bells ring in the distance and I know where in which direction I have to search. After just a few meters I am already completely wet. I keep going. Difficult to seek them, i find them - After hours. There they stand, in the middle of the endless nothingness. They are fine. I am reassured.

If the fog lasts for three days or longer, it slowly becomes stressful for my inner. The psyche can no longer find any reference points in the world. A white wall in every direction, it swallows up every light, every sound. Then I am so glad, that the cattle is there, otherwise I might lose my mind.

When the fog clears, sometimes suddenly, sometimes gradually, and the sun shines down on me, those are moments I'll never forget. Indescribable happiness.
