way of life

Working as a shepherd is an intelligent and alive creative way of life. I farm the piece of land for a while, I fertilise it, I reduce the risk of avalanches, I make cheese. The cattle are doing wonderfully up here, they are healthy. They have to trust me, that i guide them save through the dangerous parts of the mountains. And i have to have trust them. I merge with their way of grazing and being, with their warmth, their panting, with their elegant way of wandering through the mountains. They are intelligent herds. They know their way around well and know exactly how to behave in the mountains. I learn a lot from them.

Now that we are all gone again, the land is recovering again and is shining in an autumn green. The low sun is shining over it and it become mystical. Everything is connected to each other. It demands a lot from me. It's great, I never want to do anything else again
